I am such a sucker. I talked that Celtics game up so much that I forwent (seriously? Forwent is the past tense of forgo? Who says that? Then again, forgoed is a really strange looking word. And who would say “I goed to the store last night.” Hmm.) my night of girly movie watching and ended up watching the basketball game.

But I was right. Well of course, I usually am. It was an amazing game and a heated race right to the finish. I would even say, it was almost on the level of an NCAA March Madness game. Gasp! I can’t believe I said it. But it’s true down to the last second (literally, there was .7 of a second on the clock) desperation shot.

The score was tied at 77 with 3:50 remaining in the game. And if you know basketball, you know that is practically a lifetime. Shoot, :20 is a lifetime. Anything can happen. And It did. The lead kept changing and no one could break away.

And with 2.7 seconds left in the game, and Boston up by one point, Atlanta is fouled and given the opportunity to tie. I could almost hear my father screaming at the television and I’m 1000 miles away.

But the Joe Johnson from the Hawks missed the free throw and the Celtics went on to win 88-85, ending their drought in Atlanta and entering the elite ranks of the 16-wins-or-more-in-a-row Club.

Once again this article skipped ahead of itself by about a month. Once the holidays are over I’m hoping to be able to give you some daily recaps of the night’s biggest games and some quick facts for you to know to survive the sports dominated world of today. The top scorers, plays of the game…any other useless trivia I decide to throw in there! So here is:

What you need to know for your sports-trivia dropping for today:

1. The Celtics Won. 88-85.

2. Atlanta’s Joe Johnson missed the game-tying free throw. He also had 20 points and 3 key steals. Still doesn’t make up for the fact that he missed that shot.

3. Kevin Garnet and Paul Pierce each scored 18 for the C’s

4. The C’s have now won 16 in a row. DO NOT SAY STREAK! It’s a curse. The Lakers have the longest winning, um, streak, at 33.

5. The Houston Rockets won 22 in a row last year and the Celtics are the ones who stopped their streak then.

6. Mike Bibby. Ah, well he had 14 points for Atlanta and  I just really wanted to put his name here. It’s so funny. Bibby. Say it out loud. Makes you giggle. Bibby. Bibby-bobbity-Boo. Oh. Well I don’t really recommend saying that in conversation actually. Scratch that. stick with the first five!

My happy thought in the middle of my flu:

I must confess that my favorite part of watching the Celtics is because it brings me way back to when I was really into NCAA ball. I get to hear about Ray Allen (UConn) and Paul Pierce (KU) again and I don’t know, for some reason it just makes me happy!
