Of course, all Yankee fans will say every year is a good year to be a fan (do not provoke them by bringing up the Red Sox winning years. They get violent.)

But this year is a hugely historic year for the Yankees, and for baseball in general. If you haven’t heard (which is nearly impossible but just in case) we said good-bye to Yankee Stadium this year. I’m really not going to get into it all because I get more than a little annoyed and upset. However, this obvious money-making, history-erasing travesty that ripped down one of the most famous and beloved  structures in sports history….I’m sorry.  I meant, this significant, historic event, has lead to amazing commemorative memorabilia that any Yankees fan, or sports fan for that matter, would love. (on a side: I feel so bad for Shea Stadium. Because it’s not getting the love and hype it deserves! The Mets sure picked the wrong year to get their new stadium).
Here are some of my favorites that make me almost say I’m a Yankee Fan! (except I won’t because my father would disown me). But to be serious, the loss of this historical and symbolic structure really is a significant moment. Jeez, I am such a girl. I get all teary eyed about it and I’ve never even been there.

Oh and p.s.: these are gifts almost guaranteed to make guys cry too. Very emotional stuff. I am picking my top 5: the gifts I would want if I was allowed to declare myself a Yankees fan. I personally think that the way to go is to spend the extra money and get the collectibles. Forget the t-shirts and hats or 2009 calendars and other trinkets. This is a very significant moment in sports history, you want to get something that will last and be passed on.

1. Yankee Stadium: Baseball’s Cathedral

This DVD collector’s set also comes with a collectible ticket and coin commemorating the 85 years of the stadium. The dvd features so many iconic moments in the stadium including Lou Gehrig;s emotional “luckiest man” speech. A great piece of history that you can have in your own living room.

2. Yankee Stadium Scrapbook

There are 140 pages of touching and historic photos, a lifetime of memories from the last 85 years at the stadium. Something every Yankee fan must have.

3. Yankee Stadium: The Official Retrospective

“Yankee Stadium: The Official Retrospective is more than just photographs. It is also graced with firsthand accounts of what it was like to be there as history unfolded. Some of the contributors include: George Steinbrenner, Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, former Vice President Dan Quayle, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, Paul McCartney, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Don Shula, Sugar Ray Leonard, Frank Gifford, Regis Philbin, Joe Torre, Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Reggie Jackson, and Cal Ripken Jr.” ~Product Description from Amazon

4. Framed Collectibles of Then and Now

I think this is wonderful. A great shot encapsulating both the beginning and the end of the era. Or pick one from the Final Season. Either way, they are something to keep forever and pass on to future generations. I am such a sucker.

5. Yankee Stadium Legacy Commemorative Box Set: 100 Baseball Cards, Upper Deck

The sentimental value of these cards alone makes them Priceless. A great collector’s set for anyone who is still a kid at heart.

6. I’m also recommending a stadium replica.

I just happen to love these little guys! Think they are cool. There are a lot to choose from so take some time and research them but they are a great addition to the baseball-lovers office! I gave one link and at the bottom of that page there are others to choose from!

7. Yankeeography

Not necessarily just about the stadium, but a must-have for all Yankee fans!

The Los Angeles Lakers’ signing of Andrew Bogut drew plenty of reactions from both sides of the fence but his veteran status makes him an asset on the court and the bench.

Reasons why baseball has bigger money power than football

Baseball attracts millions of spectators, and it makes the largest amounts of money throughout the world. It is the main hero of sports pages of American newspapers, one of the main characters of books and movies. The famous baseball player of the 1940s Joe DiMaggio was no less popular than his starry wife Marilyn Monroe was. Baseball is a […]
