One Shining Moment: 2009 March Madness Recap Video

I am such a mushy girl! Every year CBS runs a March Madness recap/tribute/compilation video set to the song “One Shining Moment.”

The video that aired immediately after the North Carolina Tar Heels won the National Championship last night had me tearing up and crying like it was a freaking Hallmark commercial!

Maybe it was because I followed the Madness so closely this year. This huge swell of emotion came up as I watched the different clips. These kids play with such heart and passion that it really is inspiring to watch, again and again.

Ironically, the song was written by David Barret Barrett, a singer/songwriter from Michigan, after the 1979 NCAA tournament—the one that pitted Larry Bird against Michigan State’s Ervin “Magic” Johnson. Seems so wrong or bittersweet that Michigan State wasn’t the closing scenes of the montage this year.

The song and montages first aired after the 1987 NCAA Championship game and have been a huge part of the tournament ever since.
