Michigan State came out hard and the Spartans never stopped fighting. In a dazzling performance that shocked even Mich State fans, they shut down Rick Pitino’s #1 seeded team Lousiville and provided one of the best upsets in the tournament.

Lousiville, who scored over a 100 points during Friday’s match-up against Arizona—and who averaged 74 points per game all season–was held to only 52 points during Sunday’s battle with the Spartans.

Mich State outscored, out-rebounded, out-defended, and just plain out-played the Cardinals.

The Game Stats:

Mich State: 34 rebounds, 19 assists, 7 steals

Field Goal: 46% 3-point: 50%  Free Throw: 72%

Louisville: 25 rebounds, 12 assists, 5 steals

Field Goal: 37%  3-point: 29% Free Throw: 56%  They only made 5 out of 17 three point attempts and only 10 of their 18 free throws.

Kalin Lucas: 10 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal.

Preston Knowles: 11 points, 2 blocks, 2 assists and 3 steals

Michigan State’s Coach Tom Izzo did a fantastic job reading Rick Pitino’s team and directing own his team on how to shut down the #1 team in the touney.

Michigan State heads home to Detroit for the Final Four where they will now have a huge home court advantage.
