Gilles Marini Profile
So when DWTS announced that Gilles Marini would be joining the cast, all the female fans were excited to see him bare that perfect chest during the Latin numbers. I think it’s safe to say that most of us, didn’t expect him to be a great dancer–nor did we care. All we wanted was to see that perfect sculpted tushy in tight dance pants!
But shock of shocks, this French hottie burst out in Week 1 and showed us that he has got moves! I really can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the competition because he is blowing them all away.
And looking damn fine doing it.
His stats:
- He’s a 6′1 hunk of perfectly chisled muscle.
- Born in Grasse, France on January 26, 1976
- Was part of French Army before being discovered
- Known for: being the Naked Guy in Sex & The City Movie —Samantha’s hot Cassanova neighbor.
- Been in dozens of movies, TV shows and commercials include Pirates of the Carribean 3!
- Dance Partner: Cheryl Burke. Cheryl is a two-time winner of DWTS and Emmy-nominated dancer. She won with Drew Lachey and Emmit Smith. She also has her own dance company. I’ve always liked her but in the past couple seasons she’s been a bit cranky and bitchy. And she looks old even though she’s not even 25 yet.

UPDATE: Much to the dismay and shock of fans, Shawn Johnson beat out Gilles for the shiny mirror ball trophy. It was the closest finale in the history with Shawn racking in less than 1% more votes than Gilles. See, every vote counts!
Recaps:
- The Finale Freestyle “What a Feeling (Flashdance theme)” Irene Cara Now THIS was a freestyle! What a wonderful take on a Free Style! Normally I am not a fan of free style routines. To use a Simon Cowell reference “it’s like watching a drunk uncle at a wedding” trying to do hip hop. But not this. I thought it was fun, funky and unique. I agree with the judges that Flashdance is a women’s dance and I was a bit disappointed—I thought Cheryl was going to choreograph Gilles as the girl which would have been so funny! But overall it was definitely the best free style of the three.
- Scores: 9-10-9 = 28
- Total for night: 58/60

- The Finale Paso Doble Face Off “So What” Pink Hands down, best Paso of the night. He destroyed the competition with. His posture, pizazz and…panache….was more powerful then the pro male dancers. Fantastic. Loved the costumes too—especially Cheryl’s skirt.
- Scores: 10-10-10 = 30

Gilles & Cheryl’s Solo starts at 2:13
- Semi-Finals Week 10 Ballroom— Quickstep: “I Got Rhythm” Gershwin I have no idea how they managed to be elegant and cheeky at the same time! Amazing! Fun, upbeat yet coy and graceful. Musical, fancy footwork! Loved the ending, dramatic spin. Melissa’s dress was simply stunning! I wish I had it. Len loved it. Bruno and Carrie-Ann thought it was very pretty but not as dramatic and soulful as they expected her to be in the semi-finals.
- Scores: 9-10-9 = 28
- Watch Melissa & Tony’s Quickstep video on YouTube in the sidebar
- Semi-Finals Week 10—Latin Cha-Cha-Cha: “Save the Last Dance For Me” The Drifters/Michael Buble Interesting. Very interesting. I loved the dance. I thought it was un-freaking-believable. But like Bruno said “I like my Cha-Cha full thrust and full on” and I feel the same. He called her out that the energy wasn’t there through the whole thing. I also don’t feel it was a “cha-cha.” Fun routine but not the long -legged promenades and sassy-shaking of a cha-cha that I really love. Like Len said “I liked it, but not as much as I thought I would.”
- Scores: 9-9-9 = 27
- Total for the night: 55/60

- Week 9 Latin – Rumba: “Sexual Healing” Marvin Gaye Quite possibly the most anticipated dance of the season. The hottest, sexiest most passionate dancer the show has ever had doing the hottest, sexiest most passionate dance of them all? Yum! Judges were nuts! It was so hot and yummy, I seriously drooled on myself the entire time. Although Carrie-Ann was right, the opening solo was very odd and trying too hard. A must-watch…. but all by yourself because it’s really steamy!
- Scores: 9-9-9 = 27
- Total for the night: 56/60

- Week 9 Ballroom -Foxtrot: “Fever” Loved Cheryl’s foxy animal print dress! (happy b’day to her too!) I’m always a fan of Gilles when he is the sultry leading man and the performance itself was really amazing. But. And it’s a big but. It was not a foxtrot. It really felt more like a tango with the syncopated music, the dark outfits and the smoldering passion. Granted, the dance worked really well with the music, but I missed the gliding rise and the line extensions that make a Foxtrot so fun and happy. It was more Carlos Gardel than Fred Astaire.
- Scores: 10-9-10 =29
- watch Gilles & Cheryl’s Foxtrot video!
- Week 8 Lindy Hop: Didn’t like anything about it. I thought the costumes were garish —lime green and bright blue. I didn’t think they were in sync for most of the dance. I hated his Elvis style hair. The judges loved his ability to transform into a new persona since we are used to his smoldering hotness. But that’s what I like! Screw this comedic goofy-looking actor! I was impressed with his ability to do the lifts with an injured shoulder but other than that, blech!
- Scores 9-9-9=27
- Team Tango: “Womanizer” WOO HOOO! HE IS BACK! WOW! Hot, steamy, powerful and YUMMY! He looked fantastic in his solo and he really lead the group when they were all in sync. I don’t know what Len was bitching about!
- Team Scores: 9-9-10=28 WINNERS of the Team Tango vs. Team Mambo!
- Total Score: 55
- Team Tango Video
- Week 7 Viennese Waltz: Yeah. It was good. Liked it. He’s a good leading man in ballroom but I prefer him in the hot Latin numbers. This was definitely not my favorite dance ” for me for him.”
- Scores: 9-9-9 = 27
————————-
bonus picture snapped during the show of Gilles in a bathing suit! Oooh!
- Week 6 The Jive: “Dance, Dance” Fall Out Boy. The judges basically called him a whirling dervish of movement and thought it was a big manic. There were a crazy amount of steps and kicks and flicks. No other star could have handled that kind of choreography. There were some really fun moves like when he slid on his heel across the floor. But, the judges were right, most of the lines were a bit clipped and looked like he was racing to keep up.
- Scores: 9-8-9 = 26
- Week 5 Paso Doble: Really, all I can say is: Oh. My. God. Gilles Marini Shirtless on DWTS! This was so good and so hot that it….. it’s worth watching all the other really crappy dances that have happened over the last like 8 seasons just to get to this performance. Okay first of all, he was shirtless at first (and kept shirt open rest of the time). Second, super tight Latin pants covering the perfect tushy! Third, the dance was better than some professional Pasos that I have seen. It really could wind up in my Top 10 dances of all time —on both DWTS and So You think You Can Dance! Fantastic!
- Score: 10-9-10 Len was a cranky pants.
- Week 4 The Argentine Tango: “El Tango” This dance left me speechless. There was so much fire, passion and smoldering desire that I could barely breathe. It was sexy and well, perfect. You truly could now tell who was the professional and who was the celebrity learning to dance. It was flawless and effortless. Amazing!
- Score: 10-10-10 –The first perfect score of the season!
- Watch the video on YouTube!
He’s already had a perfect score and it’s only Week 4! He rivals Max as the hottest Latin Lover on the dance floor and he has even mastered ballroom. Where can he go from there? ABC should just take him off the show as a contestant and hire him as a pro this week!
- Week 3: Samba: “Matador” Their samba was absolutely Sizzling! Red hot and fiery! Len even said that he makes a hard dance look easy. Carrie-Ann loved that Gilles could shake things that she didn’t know a man could shake. And so did we!
- Watch the video on YouTube!
Samba Scores: 9-9-9 = 27 for the second week in a row!
- Week 2 Quickstep: “Kryptonite” Week 1 showed his passionate, sexy Latin lover side but to our surprise Gilles was just as talented as the smooth leading man of the ball room! There was class, style, elegance and grace. Amazing musicality and precision in the dance. And a yummy shirt ripping open scene to reveal “Superman” at the end!
- Score: 9-9-9 = 27. The highest second week score ever!
- Watch the video on YouTube!
- Week 1 Cha-Cha-Cha: “Addicted to Love” had us all addicted to Gilles and Cheryl. It was hot, hot, hot. Not only that, but Gilles also made it look effortless. It was hard to believe that it was Week 1 and he wasn’t the professional. His lines and extensions were unbelivable!
- Score: 8-8-8 = 24! I think the judged would have even ranked it higher if it wasn’t Week 1!

Check back after each week, I’ll be adding to Gilles’ profile!
