This year’s Super Bowl features the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. Both teams come from areas rich with regional food staples making game day truly delicious! I must apologize in advance for the overabundance of NY Giants menu items but being a displaced New Yorker, there are lots of foods I miss all the time and had to share them! SUPER BOWL SNACK

New York City is known for its street food. There are vendors on every corner selling everything from dirty-water-dogs to gyros. So why not recreate that feel at your party? Set up a little NYC food cart full of all the fun “typical” NYC fares: popcorn, hot pretzels, pizzas, roasted nuts, and make little mini-hot dogs or pigs in blankets. Be creative!

PREGAME:

The New York Giants Big Blue  from  Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

A sophisticated Manhattan with blueberries!

Ingredients:

• 2 oz rye whiskey
• 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
• 2-3 dashes bitters
• Fresh blueberries for garnish

Directions:
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice cubes. Stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with blueberries

The Manning Special from  Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
• 1 small lime wedge
• 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
• 1 1/2 ounces gin
• 1/2 oz grenadine
• Ice
• 2 oz chilled club soda

Directions:
Muddle 15 blueberries with the lime wedge and sugar. Add the gin and ice and shake well. Strain into a highball glass half-filled with ice, top with the club soda and grenadine, and garnish with the remaining blueberries.

The Big Blue Beer Cocktail

•    1 ounce rye
•     1 ounce blood orange purée
•     1 ounce simple syrup
•     1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
•     Ice
•     2 ounces Blue Moon beer, or any citrusy beer
•     1 pretzel stick, for garnish

In a cocktail shaker, combine first 4 ingredients and shake with ice. Strain over fresh ice into a tall glass and top with beer. Garnish with a pretzel stick and serve during the Big Game.

FIRST QUARTER

New York City style Pizza and Bagels are the two things I miss most living in Florida so I’m giving you two favorite New York City inspired dips! Okay and a third dip too: White Castle Dip!

New York Giants Pastrami & Bagel Dip

When I think of New York sandwiches, I think pastrami (or corned beef) on rye. (and my mouth waters insanely). Well, how bout a creamy, oniony pastrami dip served with BAGELS! BEST IDEA EVER!

Ingredients

• 1 (16 oz.) jar Hellmann’s mayonnaise
• 1 (16 oz.) container sour cream
• 1 tbsp. (heaping) dillweed
• 1 tbsp. Accent
• 1 sm. onion, diced
• 2 pkgs. corned beef or pastrami! chopped
• Garlic to taste
• Bagels, cut in bite-size pieces

Mix together; refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. Serve with the cut-up bagels. Very important to use Hellmann’s mayonnaise – the taste won’t be the same if not. You can add saurkrauet if you like also, I haven’t tried that but it seems like it would work!

New York Giants Pizza Dip

Ingredients:

• 1 15oz. can pizza sauce
• 2 8oz. packages cream cheese, cut into cubes
• 1 8oz. package sliced pepperonit
• 1 3.8oz can of olives, drained, chopped
• 2 cups shredded part skim mozzarella cheese
• Bagel chips, garlic toast or pizza dough sticks

Directions

1.    Cut cream cheese into cubes, chop olives, pepperoni. Shred cheese if necessary
2.    Mix pizza sauce, pepperoni and olives together
3.   Put cream cheese into slow cooker.   Pour over sauce mix and top with shredded cheese.  Cover and cook 1.5-2 hours until cheese is melted

White Castle Vidalia Dip If you don’t know what a White Castle burger is, you need to get yourself to Long Island ASAP. Or hit up your local grocery store since they now have these square patties of goodness in the frozen food aisle! There is something so…… naughty…..about White Castle burgers that is just impossible to dupliate. Maybe it’s the square patty. Maybe it’s the fried onions. All I know is the combo is potent and highly addicting. And now they’ve taken the happinees of White Castle and packed it into the perfect party dip! Get the Recipe!

SECOND QUARTER:

First, I was already beyond excited about the Everything Bagel Chicken Wings! Then, I discovered the Chicken Wing Cupcake. Yes, a Chicken Wing CUPCAKE. And even better, it was invented in Albany, NY not to far from where I am from so I had to share it with you!

I know you are picturing that chicken wing in a pile of sweet frosting: gross. But it’s not! Anyone who watches Cupcake Wars knows these typically confectionery treats have entered the savory world! The Chicken Wing Cupcake is actually a corncake covered with blue cheese frosting and topped with a chicken wing! Check out CoccaDotts Cake Shop on Facebook for more info! Everything Bagel Chicken Wings!

I have been craving New York City bagels for months. You can not get a good bagel in Florida that’s for sure. And everything bagels are my favorite thing since chicken wings so imagine my delight in finding a recipe that combines BOTH! Best idea ever!

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup mayonnaise
• a few shakes of hot sauce
•  2 tablespoons grill seasoning (recommended — McCormick’s)*
• 1 tablespoon poppy seed *
• 1 ½ tablespoons toasted sesame seeds *
• 2 1/2 pounds of chicken wings

*mix all together in a small bowl and save some to sprinkle on top of wings after they are cooked!

Directions:
Mix together mayo, hot sauce and Bagel Spices in a large bowl. Add raw chicken wings to the bowl and toss to coat evenly. Let marinate overnight. Arrange wings on a broiler pan and shake a little more bagel spice over the wings, bake for about 45 minutes at 400 degrees, turning them halfway through (you could also throw these on the grill).

Dipping ideas: pick your favorite cream cheese like onion & chive or for me, bacon scallion. Then dilute it just a little. I used sour cream and it worked to make it a more creamy sauce to dunk it. But you can schmear it!

HALFTIME
The New York Giant Italian Meatball Burger Gotta love the name of this one! Instead of a traditional burger, this one is made like a meatball and then covered in your favorite Italian gravy and gooey cheeses! Forget the hot meatball sandwich! This is even better!

• 8 ounces sweet turkey Italian sausage
• 1 teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 teaspoon dried basil
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
• 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 pound ground sirloin
• Cooking spray
• 2 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
• 6 (2-ounce) Italian bread rolls, split
• 3/4 cup fat-free tomato-basil pasta sauce

Directions:

1.  Prepare grill.
2.  Remove casings from sausage. Combine sausage, oregano, basil, salt, fennel seeds, garlic powder, and ground sirloin. Divide beef mixture into 6 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch-thick patty.
3.  Place patties on a grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 5 minutes. Turn patties over; grill 2 minutes. Divide fresh mozzarella cheese evenly over patties, and grill an additional 5 minutes or until a thermometer registers 165°. Remove from grill; let stand 5 minutes.
4. Place rolls, cut sides down, on grill rack; grill 1 minute or until toasted. Place 1 patty on bottom half of each roll; top each serving with 2 tablespoons sauce and top half of roll.

THIRD QUARTER

Like I said in the New England Patriots Big Game Day Recipe Guide, this Super Bowl it’s time to fuggedabout the chili! This year it’s all about: Soup-Er Bowl XLVI: Manhattan vs. New England Clam Chowders!

However, if you really can’t make it through the Big Game Party without some chili, I found you a Pepperoni Pizza Chili with Pizza Crust Oyster Crackers: Get the recipe here!

New York Giants Manhattan Clam Chowder

•    4 ounce(s) Canadian bacon, diced
•     1 large Spanish onion, chopped
•     1 stalk(s) celery, thinly sliced
•     1 can(s) (10 ounces) clam juice
•     1 can(s) (15 ounces) whole tomatoes, chopped
•     2 medium red potatoes, chopped
•     2  bay leaves
•     1/4 teaspoon(s) lemon pepper
•     1 can(s) (6 ounces) minced clams with juice
•     Salt and pepper to taste
•     1/4 cup(s) chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Directions

1. Sauté the baconuntil lightly browned. Add the onion and celery and sauté until the onion is transparent, about 3 minutes.
2. Stir in the clam juice, tomatoes, potatoes, bay leaves, and lemon pepper. Cover the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender, 12 to 15 minutes.
3. Stir in the clams and simmer the soup for 5 minutes more. Taste and season with salt and pepper if needed. Discard the bay leaves. Top each serving with the parsley.

FOURTH QUARTER

I almost feel guilty for giving you the stereotypical New York Style Cheesecake as your game day dessert but there is a reason why it’s the Official State Dessert (at least in my mind). It’s like a cake of heavenly goodness!

Also, I found an article about Eli Mannings favorite cookies: His mother’s Lace Cookies. They would make a great addition to your Super Bowl Party dessert list! And they are super easy. Get Eli Manning’s Lace Cookie Recipe here

 New York Giants Cheesecake

The recipe is for a traditional NY style cheesecake. I also like Ricotta Cheesecake. The trick to making this New York Giants inspired is the toppings. You can go with fresh fruit or the ooey gooey yummy syrupy toppings. Pick blueberries, raspberries and strawberries to create your ultimate New York Giants Cheesecake!

Ingredients

• 5 packages full fat cream cheese
• 1¼ cup granulated sugar
• 3 tablespoons flour
• ¼ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 5 large eggs, gently beaten
• 2 tablespoons whole milk
• Prepared graham cracker crust (or you could make your own if you are baking savvy unlike myself)

Directions:

In one bowl, gently mix cream cheese with sugar, salt and flour.  Add vanilla and eggs with a mixer on low. Beat just enough to make it smooth and lump free. Do Not Overbeat!

1. Pour cheesecake batter into crust.
2. Make a bain-marie (a fancy way of saying fill a separate baking dish with about 2inches of water and place you cheesecake filled pan in that water. One tip, wrap your cheesecake pan in tinfoil too before putting it in the water. You want the hot water to come about half way up the cheesecake pan.)
3. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until center is set, but still jiggles a little when moved. Shut oven off and let cheesecake sit in oven for 30 minutes.
4. Remove cheesecake from oven and take it out of the water bath. Run a knife along the outside edge of the cheesecake. Let the cheesecake cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes and then pop into fridge to chill.
5. Unmold cheesecake carefully. Cover with cherries, raspberries, strawberries or blueberries!

 THE SUPERBOWL SNACK

Brady’s Bunch of Munch and Crunch

You gotta have a super bowl of something snacky or it’s not a party! And the best kind of snack food: something sweet AND salty! Take some popcorn and cover it in white chocolate and you have utter decadence. Throw in some cranberry, the regional staple fruit of Cape Cod and all things New England and you have a very Patriotic snack!

Ingredients

• 10 cups lightly salted already popped popcorn
• 2 cups semi-sweet real chocolate chips (12 ounce bag) —or  even better, white chocolate
• 1 1/2 cups dried cranberries

Directions

1. Spread popcorn out on a large baking sheet in one layer Sprinkle evenly with 1/2 of the dried cranberries.
2. Melt the chocolate chips by either the stovetop or microwave.
3. Once chocolate is fully melted, pour chocolate over popcorn and cranberries.  Sprinkle remaining 1/2 of dried cranberries on the warm chocolate and popcorn. Let cool and chocolate will harden.

PREGAME

The Hot Tommy:

Forget a Hot Toddy, I want a Hot Tommy! In case you don’t know, a Hot Toddy is a traditional hot whiskey or brandy drink brewed with tea and lemon and honey. Usually used for a cure for a cold or flu. But over the years it’s turned into a great holiday warm-me-up beverage. This version features New England’s favorite flavor of the season: cranberries

Ingredients

• 4 tangerines
• 1/2 cup whole cloves
• 3 quarts 100% unsweetened cranberry juice (if unavailable, use cranberry juice cocktail and omit the sugar)
• 2 cups sugar, or to taste
• 3 cups amber Rum

Directions:

1. Cut tangerines into 1/4-inch-thick round slices and remove seeds. Stud rind of each tangerine round with 4 or 5 cloves.
2. In a large saucepan simmer cranberry juice, tangerine rounds, and sugar, 5 minutes.
3. Stir in rum and stir in rum and serve in mugs or heat proof glasses.
4. Garnish with tangerine and cinnamin stick, for extra kick.

Another fun version of this recipe done with tea:

• 1 tbsp honey
• 3/4 glass cranberry brewed tea
• 2 shots brandy
• 1 slice lemon

Brew tea and fill a tall glass 3/4 full. Mix in honey. Mix in brandy shots. Add lemon slice and enjoy.

New England Patriots Cranberry Almond Kicker

• 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail
• 1 cup vodka
• 1/2 cup amaretto
• 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice*
• Ice cubes
• Clementines, peeled, separated into segments (optional)
• * Mix cranberry juice, vodka, amaretto, and orange juice in pitcher. Let chill for a little while to blend flavors. Add vodka. Shake it up, serve!

FIRST QUARTER:

Lobstah Roll Dip & Mini-Grinders

You can’t go to New England without tasting a succulent lobstah roll! Fresh and juicy plump lobster meat smothered in yummy goodness in a roll….yum-o! For game day, turn the roll, into a dip! Serve it in hot dog buns for fun!

• 2 cups cooked lobster, chopped
• 1 cup celery, finely chopped
• 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
• 1/2 cup mayonnaise
• 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
• 1/4 cup chopped parsley or 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Directions
Combine first seven ingredients in a bowl, stirring well. Top with parsley or cilantro if desired. Serve win hot dog buns for fun!

Mini-Grinders

Never been to the good ole northeast? Then you are probably wondering what the heck a grinder is. “Grinder” is New England for a baked (not toasted!) sub sandwich, or hoagie. You could make or order a big tray of sandwiches but minis and sliders are so popular right now that having a mini-grinder station would be even better!

Want to make it even more New England? Serve Cabinets…the slang for frappe milkshakes!

So I’m not going to give you a recipe for this because that would just be silly. All you do is get a tray of deli meats, some mini buns or bread and some fun garnishes like pickels, olives, tomatoes, onions and lettuce. And of course, the condiments like mayo, mustard, etc. I recommend whipping up a unique “special sauce” of your own too like a spicy honey mustard or horseradish mayo! Feel free to bake, toast or go plain!

2nd QUARTER

Wicked Pissah Wings

In case you didn’t know, the New England Patriots (and the Red Sox and the Bruins) are Wicked Pissah! Or as the rest of the world would say, Really Awesome!  And these wings are Wicked Pissah too with cranberries and smokey grill flavor!

Ingredients

• 18 Chicken Wings
• 1 can Jellied Cranberry Sauce (fresh sauce is even better!)
• 1 1/2 teaspoons packed Brown Sugar
• 1 teaspoon Prepared Mustard
• 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

 ***I like to make extra sauce to smother my wings with for after they come off the grill as well! Just make sure to separate the batches and not put raw chicken in the uncooked sauce!
Directions:

1. Place chicken wings in a mixing bowl.  In medium saucepan, combine cranberry sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Stirring constantly over low heat until smooth. Allow sauce to cool.

Pour over chicken wings, cover and refrigerate to marinate for at least an hour.  Remove chicken from marinade and grill directly over medium heat, until chicken is cooked through. (They can be baked also but the grill really sears in that smokey taste) Smother in rest of sauce for sticky goodness

The New England Patriots “Best Burger Ever”

I found this burger recipe called “The Best Burger Recipe Ever” and I thought that it would be the perfect burger for the Patriots since many consider them to be the best NFL team ever….. (I know, cocky words. But Pats fans are kinda like Yankees fans, they don’t just think they are the best, they know they are the best) But beyond the boastful claim, this burger also features Sam Adams beer, a New England tradition for years.

Another great non-beef option is the New England Turkey Burger from Rachel Ray. Plus its smothered in cranberry sauce!

Best Burger Ever ingredients

• 1lb of Ground Beef  (Must be PRIME Grade A)  The quality of the beef could be the most important factor.  Spend the money, you will not regret it.
• 1 minced onion (I like the pieces to be a little thicker)
• 2 teaspoons of garlic salt
• 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
• 1 teaspoon of tabasco sauce
• 1 quick pour of  Sam Adams Beer
• 2 tablespoons of Honey Mustard
• 2 egg yolkes
• dash of salt and pepper

Mix all the ingredients up with your hands.  Shape into thick large oval burgers.  Cook on Grill until temperature reaches medium.  Top with Cheddar cheese and melt briefly

THIRD QUARTER

Normally third quarter and football parties are all about CHILI! But this year’s Super Bowl features an epic battle off the field as well. It’s Super Chowdah Bowl XLVI: Manhattan vs. New England!

I’m a born and raised New Yorker but I gotta say, New England wins every time for me in the chowdah wars. Nothing like a thick, hearty and creamy based soup to warm you up and enhance the flavor of yummy clams!

But, just in case you can’t make it through the Super Bowl without chili, well, I found a White Clam Chili Recipe that is hearty and delish! Get the Recipe!

New England Patriots Clam Chowdah-Chowdah

Ingredients

•     1/2 pound bacon, medium dice, rendered until crispy
•     1 cup chopped leeks (about 1 pound)
•     1 cup chopped yellow onions
•     1/2 cup chopped celery
•     1 carrot, peeled and diced
•     3 bay leaves
•     1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
•     1/2 cup flour
•     1 pound white potatoes, peeled and medium diced
•     4 cups clam juice
•     2 cups heavy cream
•     2 pounds little neck clams, shucked, chopped
•     2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
•     Salt and pepper

Directions

Use a heavy stock pot, over medium-high heat, render the bacon, until crispy, about 8 minutes.

• Stir in the leeks, onions, celery, and carrots & saute about 2 minutes until just wilting.
• Add the bay leaves and thyme. Stir in the flour and cook for 2 more minutes.
• Add the potatoes and stir in the clam juice.
• Bring the liquid up to a boil and reduce to a simmer.Cook until potatoes are tender (12-15 minutes)
• Add the cream and bring up to simmer. Add the clams and simmer for 2 minutes.

FOURTH QUARTER

Indian Pudding and Grape Nuts Pudding

I have two regional favorite recipes to share with you for New England, both of which I grew up on–at least every summer when we would head to Cape Cod. They are Indian Pudding and Grape Nuts Pudding. Yes, Grape Nuts like the cereal. My mother would be thrilled that I’m spreading those dishes on to you because loved both of them! And both recipes are very seasonal right now. Indian Pudding is hot, filling and has all the flavors of the season like nutmeg, molasses and cinnamon. And Grape Nuts Pudding is like a thick yummy custard!

Another fun option would be to go with a Boston Cream Pie, New England’s answer to New York’s famous cheesecake!

The easiest way to make a jersey look cute is to find and buy a slim, women’s cut jersey. They are not as bulky and baggy.

If you are borrowing a jersey, try knotting it on the side or the back to help tuck the fabric (be sure to check that the knot will not damage the jersey!)

LAYERING

The great thing about fall fashion is that it’s all about layering which is great for jerseys! Throw a jersey over a coordinating long sleeve tee or a tank top. Then keep layering with fun, funky jackets or vests for extra warmth and extra fashion!

Make sure you have something warm and snuggly but still fun!

• Parkas are huge for fall from bold colors to fur lined. You can’t go wrong!
• Varsity Jackets are timeless classics that always come back for fall and are perfect for game day.
• Capes! No, not like Batman. Some people call them Ponchos. But capes have more of a dramatic flair. They are great for snuggling under! Just keep it casual. Sure the floor length ivory Audrey Heburn inspired cape that you love to twirl in is fabulous. But not for football. If you are going poncho, please, please make it cool and not hobo-hippie.
• NFL Team Sweatshirts

If you are wearing a jersey, stay away from big, bulky NFL Team Sweatshirts for game day. The sweatshirts are great for warmth and for team spirit but you already have the spirit with the jersey. No need to overkill it! If you are doing a jersey style alternative then a sweatshirt could be fun over the top!

BOTTOMS

Cute Denim Skirts. And not uber-mini Hollister skirts. Just a simple denim skirt is always a classic look.

Cheerleader flippy skirt. Same rules apply, don’t go super short.

Skinny jeans, jeggings or leggings. I can not believe I’m saying that. But it’s true. The slim cut of those bottoms will help offset the bulky weight of the jersey. You want to stay away from boyfriend or baggy jeans.

Hot Colored Pants. For some reason the crazy 80s bright colored pants trend has made it’s way back to us. But it actually works for game day because you can pick your teams primary color and wear a jersey in either white or black to make the color pop.

If you are going to make a jersey look cute, you need to complete the look head to toe. In case you missed it, this site is called STILETTO Sports. So it pains me to not do a feature on the hottest heels to wear. But as a Game Day Princess myself, I know heels and tailgating = very bad idea.

Lucky for us, flat boots and wedges are huge for fall!

You may wonder why I didn’t mention the Pink Women’s NFL Jersey collection. There is great debate over whether to Pink or not to Pink for Game Day. While I think they are adorable, at the same time (and I can’t believe this is me saying this) I actually think that if you are going to do a jersey, you might as well do it in the teams colors!
