“When I dip, you dip, we dip” (good now it’s in your head too. I’ve been singing it for two days)


I’m calling this B’s Guide to Super Bowl Parties because all of the recipes come from one of my best friends, Brenda–the queen of get togethers! She will tell you that the key to a fabulous and successful party is definitely the DIPS!

I have tried all of these dips and I LOVE them! And the best part is each one is inexpensive and ridiculously easy.

Crab Dip, Bean Dip, Spin Dip, Pizza Dip and even… Wing Dip! YUM!

Brenda’s Hot ‘n Spicy Crab Dip

There is a place in Florida that has one of the most amazing cajun crab dips. It’s all cajuny and gooey and served with fresh black and red tortilla chips. For years it was my favorite thing until my friend Brenda adapted this Hot Crab Dip recipe from one of her cookbooks and blew theirs out of the water. The original recipe didn’t include extra cheese and cayenne pepper but since B is the queen of spicy foods, she changed it up and it is the BEST PARTY DIP. Or “I’m watching Dancing With the Stars by myself on a Monday night” dip.


Pots Used: No pot. One bowl, one pie plate to bake in.

Skill: Easy. Can you use a spoon? That’s all you really need to do: stir.

Wow Factor: 10. It’s an unassuming dip that will take everyone by surprise with its deliciousness!



1 8oz package of Cream Cheese, softened

1/4 cup grated Parmesean Cheese

1/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing

1/4 cup dry white wine or apple juice

2 teaspoons sugar

1 teaspoon ground mustard (dry)

1 clove garlic, finally chopped (I use a heaping teaspoon of minced garlic)

1 6oz can Crabmeat, drained

1/4 cup sliced green onions

1/4 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese.

Cayenne pepper. (I don’t specify amount because it depends on your heat level. I use about a tablespoon. Keep in mind though as it bakes, the fire comes out)

Favorite crackers and veggies. **I love it with Triscuits (Quattro Formaggio and Parmesean)


The Steps:

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Mix all ingredients except for crabmeat and shredded cheese into a bowl.
  3. Fold the crabmeat in.
  4. Spread mixture in ungreased pie plate (I use an 8inch round Pyrex because that’s what Brenda always used and I’m not good at change).
  5. Top with shredded cheese and a few shakes of Parm cheese. Add a few of the green onions for decoration.
  6. Bake uncovered 15-20 minutes. Dip will be hot and bubbly and the cheese will be browning.
  7. Make sure to wait a few minutes before digging in—I know it’s hard to resist—but it takes a few minutes to settle. It will be a bit soupy at first.


Brenda’s Best & Easiest Dip EVER: The Bean Dip

I swear, this is the best dip for any occassion. Quick, ridiculously simple, easy to modify and delicious. And even better, it’s really easy to make it low fat! This was Bren’s party staple for years and we would beg for it. It’s great for even fussy eaters and kids because you can adjust the toppings, like a pizza, and do half & half. We usually do a half jalepeno and a half green olive for the young ones.


Pots Used: None. You just need something to put it in. I prefer 9×13 clear Pyrex baking pan because that’s what she always had it in.

Skill: Beyond easy. It’s actually kid tested and mother approved.

Wow Factor: I’m giving it a 9 because everyone I’ve ever made it for adores it.


Ingredients: (Reduced fat suggestions in parenthesis)

  • 1 16oz. can Refried Beans. I recommend Old El Paso’s Fat Free or with Green Chili’s. (If I use the Fat Free, I buy a can of green chilis and mix it into the beans. I like mine hot)
  • 1 8oz. container of Sour Cream. (Lite or Fat Free). I never use the whole container. Use enough to cover the top of the beans but it doesn’t need to be inches thick.
  • Package of your favorite Shredded Cheese. (Reduced or Fat Free). I use a few handfuls. I like cheese.


Jar of jalepenos. I use about 1/4 – 1/2 jar because I slice mine. You can use fresh jalepenos but I wasn’t a fan when I tried it.

Diced Onion.

Bag of favorite tortilla chips. Whole bag because you won’t be able to stop eating this. (Favorite Baked Chip)

**Other people have added green olives, guacamole, or salsas but I like mine just like this.



  1. Slice & Dice Onions and jalepenos to desired size.
  2. Layer.
    • Bottom:  beans
    • Middle: Sour Cream
    • Top: Shredded Cheese
    • Sprinkle: Additional Toppings like Onions, jalepenos over cheese.

3. Try to stop yourself from eating the whole thing in one sitting.


Extra Cheesy Pepperoni Pizza Dip

I was hope in NY for the holidays and headed to B’s for a girl’s night in. And of course, she had a new amazing dip to try! She also made her own bread in her new bread machine….. Let’s just say by the time dinner was served, I was so full on this dip (and maybe a *little bit* of wine) I almost couldn’t eat the rest of her yummy food!


Pots Used: A slower cooker.

Skill: Beyond easy. Throw stuff in slow cooker, wander away, come back and eat it.

Wow Factor: I’m giving it a 8 because I was definitely in awe of how easy it was!



1 15oz. can pizza sauce

2 8oz. packages cream cheese, cut into cubes

1 8oz. package sliced pepperonit

1 3.8oz can of olives, drained, chopped

2 cups shredded part skim mozzarella cheese

Bagel chips, garlic toast or your favorite dippers



  1. Cut cream cheese into cubes, chop olives, pepperoni. Shred cheese if necessary
  2. mix pizza sauce, pepperoni and olives together
  3. Put cream cheese into slow cooker
  4. Pour over sauce mix and top with shredded cheese
  5. Cover and cook 1.5-2 hours until cheese is melted
  6. Serve piping hot with yummy dippers and watch people’s awed reaction!


Gooey Spinach-Artichoke Dip

I love spin dip. Seriously LOVE spin dip. Hot, cold, in a bread bowl, in a plastic dixie cup: don’t care. I love them all! I was going to give you my cold dip in a bread bowl recipe–then B sent me this one and I tried it. And well, it was love at first bite. Reminded me of this great restaurant in my college town of New Paltz, NY that has the best wings and spin dip! Oh how I miss those days!


Pots used: Bowl and something to bake it in. Nice and easy.

Skill: pretty easy. There are some annoying steps like having to fully drain the frozen spinach which I hate doing.

Wow Factor: For me it was definitely a 9. It was like a time machine back to the college days!



1 8oz package of cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup parmesan cheese

1/4 cup romano cheese

1 clove of garle, peeled and minced

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

Salt & Pepper to taste

1 14oz can of artichoke hearts, drained and chopped

1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and FULLY drained

1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese



  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Mix cream cheese, mayo, Parm & Romano cheeses, garlic, basil, garlic salt, S&P
  3. Stir in artichokes and spinach
  4. Transfer mixture into greased baking dish
  5. Top with mozzarella cheese
  6. Bake 25 minutes until bubbly and brown
  7. Inhale before others can sneak in and try to have some

***You can serve this in a bread bowl and totally make me drool all over myself


Wild, Wild Wing Dip

Ok this one I have not had a chance to try yet. But I trust B’s taste so much that…..well, let’s just say that this makes me want to fly home to NY so she will make it for me, even though I’m perfectly capably of making it myself and it’s 80 degrees here and snowy cold there.


Pots Used: a bowl and a baking dish

Skill: a monkey could do it!

Wow Factor: According to B, a 10. The guys she served it to kept saying “wow. Wow. WOW. I can’t believe how amazing this is…are you sure it was that easy?”



2 8oz packages cream cheese, softened

3/4 cup pepper sauce (ie Franks Red Hot)

1 cup Ranch-style salad dressing

2 cups diced cooked chicken

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Tortilla chips, celery crackers for serving!



  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mix together cream cheese and hot pepper sauce until it’s well blended
  3. Add ranch dressing, chicken and cheddar cheese
  4. Spread into 9×13 baking dish
  5. Bake for 30 minutes (if oil collects on top, dap off with paper towel)
  6. Gobble up!
