Ok, I’m going to admit this. And then you will all gasp, eyes wide with shock. And then you will forget I told you this.
I watched the NBA Nuggets/Heat game last night even though The Notebook, The Devil Wears Prada and Raising Helen were all on t.v. too. (One side note: Who put them all on t.v. on the same night and at the same time? That’s just overload!)
But how I could I miss Dicky V. call an NBA game for the first time since 1984? Even with his voice all raspy, it was still fantastic!
The Commercial for it:
My Highlights:
- About 4 minutes remaining in the first half Miami’s Dwayne Wade’s driving slam dunk: “Up, up and away! Elevator man!”
- A few minutes later on another driving slam dunk from Wade: “The Dynamic Dazzler, D. Wade. Super Duper Superstar! High Riser! Rim Rocker!”
- Half-way through the third quarter he mentioned Sarasota, Florida. Yeah, Baby!
- “PTPer!”
And finally… with only 2 minutes left in the game, I finally heard it. What I had been waiting the whole game for. After Denver’s steal and J.R. Smith’s dunk:
“Dipsy-doo Dunk-a-roo! NBA Style! Slam Jam Bam!”
Denver went on to win 108-97.
But, actually my favorite moment of the announcer-switcheroo came during the final moments of the Duke/Davidson game.
I had just turned on the television and was settling into my chair so I missed the back-story but I think they were referring to the sweet 3-pointer by Duke’s Jon Scheyer with :54 seconds remaining in the game. And then, Jeff van Gundy and Mark Jackson mentioned B.J. Armstrong from the Chicago Bulls!
Anyone who knows me knows I adored B.J. Armstrong. Loved him. He had the prettiest 3-point shot I had ever seen! Maybe those announcers aren’t so boring afterall
Oh and Duke won 79-67!

Guess what!? I have a basketball card which the player is B.J. Armstrong and the pose is just like the picture above, but his arms is more extended. And about the Bleacher report you mention in my blog, it is my first time to heard it. Maybe you can tell me more about it
