The teams for the NCAA 2009 Tournament have been released and millions are frantically trying to perfect their brackets!

I have broken down the teams into their regions and matchups to help you compare to make your own brackets! The East Region

I have broken the teams down by First Round matchups, in order by ranking per region. Each matchup gives the game date and location as well as the info on the teams, their ranks, their overall record of wins/losses for the season, conference info and a bunch of key facts and figures!   • Fanatical Fans: The Oakland Zoo. Pitts fans have been ranked the top in country and labeled “phenomenal” and “formidable.” Oakland refers to the neighborhood in Pitts where the college is.

  • Atlantic Sun Champs
  • Location: Johnson City, Tenn
  • Nickname: Buccaneers
  • Mascot: Pepper the Parrot and Buckey the Pirate
  • School Colors: Navy and Old Gold
  • Claim to Fame: country star Kenny Chesney graduated from ETSU!
  • Coach: Murray Bartow

  • ACC Champs
  • Location: Durham, North Carolina
  • Nickname: Blue Devils
  • School Colors: Royal (Duke) Blue and White
  • Coach: Coach K, Mike Krzyzewski
  • Fanatical Fans: The Cameron Crazies. You do not mess with these people. They will f&%$ you up.
  • Rivals: UNC. It’s known as the Tobacco Road rivalry and is quite possibly the most famous war in sports.

#15 Binghamton (23-8)binghamton

  • American East Champ
  • Location: Binghamton, NY (technically Vestal but I’m from NY and I don’t even know where that is)
  • Mascot:  Bearcats
  • School Colors: Dark Green, Black, White
  • Coach: Kevin Broadus
  • Players: D.J. Rivera, leads the AEC in scoring.
  • Facts: They are on an 11 game winning streak going into the tourney!

  • Location: Villanova, PA
  • Nickname: Wildcats
  • Mascot: Will D. Cat
  • School Colors: Blue and White
  • Coach: Jay Wright
  • Rivals: Part of the Philadelphia Big 5, which is the rivalry between the schools of the city. “The Holy War” is the battle between Nova and St Joseph’s.
  • Claim to Fame: When the famous Liberty Bell cracked, a new one was made called “the Sister Bell.”  Nova proudly houses the bell on their campus

  • Mascot: Eagles. That’s right, they are the American Eagles!

  • Nickname: The Bruins
  • What is a Bruin: It’s a fancy-schmancy old skool name for a Brown Bear.
  • Mascot: Joe and Josephine Bruin
  • School Colors: Blue and Gold
  • Coach: Ben Howland
  • Fun Facts: The Bruins have a total of 11 National Championships, more than anyone else! They also are the only team to have over 100 NCAA championships!
  • Rivals: USC
  • Fame: Jackie Robinson, Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, Troy Aikman, Chase Utley, Francis Ford Coppola, Carol Burnett, Marilyn Monroe, Ben Stiller, Sarah Baralleis, movie musical composer John Williams, Brooke Burke and Steve Urkel himself, Jaleel White!

  • Nickname: Volunteers.  That’s just plain weird. Also shortened to just Vols
  • Why?: Because Tenn is known as the volunteer state. The people are historically known to jump in and fight any war, from the Revolutionary War to the Civil and even the Alamo. Which was in Texas.
  • Mascot: Smokey IX the Bluetick coonhound
  • School Colors: Orange and White
  • Coach: Bruce Pearl
  • Song: the official fight song is “Down the Field” but the most popular request for The Pride to play is “Rocky Top.”  I personally would request “Tennessee” by Arrested Development
