American Idol Recap

Anyone who knows me —okay, even a random stranger who doesn’t know me probably—knows that I love Idol. I was against it for years. And one night of boredom my old roomie and I tuned in and saw Mr. Chris Daughtry during auditions.

Me & Chris Daughtry after I drove 10 hours roundtrip to see him. Twice. So worth it!

Me & Chris Daughtry after I drove 10 hours roundtrip to see him. Twice. So worth it!

I’ve been hooked ever since. (Do not ask me my opinions of Taylor Hicks. Idiot) Then came David Cook and my love for Idol has been cemented for life.

However, I’m really not feeling the format this season. Fourth judge just means more babble.  And the whole Top 12 elimination process was a really, really bad idea. Maybe because the first week I must have missed the first five minutes and had no idea what was going on. I thought that it was the Top 12— or 12 of the 24 and the others would be singing the next night. I got attached to them. And then only 3 went through! Not amused. And then totally didn’t know about the Wild Card show and missed most of it.

But moving on….

Like I said in my Dancing With The Stars recap post, I’ve been sick for a few weeks now and highly medicated. That means a whole lot of reality tv (and Facebook). It’s a bit delayed but I figured I’d throw my two cents (since I write so much could it be worth fifty cents?) in before tonight’s show. Here are

My Amazing Insights About The Top 12 13

My Fave Five…er, three

To hear any performance or see pics, head on over to American Idol!
I heart Danny Gokey!

I’m on so jumping on his bandwagon and I don’t care! I thought he was amazing and I just want to put him in my pocket and take him around with me!

I also think Scott MacIntyre is fab!

Anyone that can take “Mandolin Rain” and bring it back so people would want to listen to it, well, you gotta give the guy props!

Allison Iraheta was unbelievable.

I was totally floored. I mean when I heard she was singing Heart’s “Alone” I was dreading it but WOW. She blew me away! I would actually download her version and rock that on my Zune! I still can”t believe how young she is! She has such power and such stage presence. Love, love love!

Kris Allen

Okay, see “Man in the Mirror” is one of my fave songs so I was really worried when I heard he was doing it. But he wasn’t bad! I didn’t cringe and I found myself bopping to it a bit. Ok, just watched it again and I’m going to say it:  I really, really liked him! I have a version of the song done by a compilation of artists including 98 Degrees and he totally reminded me of it! He is like little David Archuleta but grown up! So I feel okay having a crush on him!

The Boys

Matt Giraud

He reminds me a lot of Elliot Yamin, meaning he is almost cute, but not quite. He makes me wish the Idol teamed up with ANTM to do a make-over week. I actually liked his “Viva La Vida” –which is another song I am really not a fan of mostly because it is so overplayed that it drives me insane.I actually understood all the words! It wasn’t perfect but I am definitely interested to see what else he has.

Anoop

How can you not love him? He’s great. Could totally be the lead singer of a boyband. I just really hope one thing: trim the eyebrows! Very distracting!

Adam Lambert

Oh, how I want to love him. My old roommate would de-friend me if she heard me say this but I liked his “Satisfaction.”(It really upsets her when people change old classics. Like really, really, really upsets her.) The thing is, I would probably heart him if he wasn’t so extreme. He has the potential to be my new David Cook (especially since I’m upset with David for his less than fab album he put out) but I’m just not sure. Not a fan of the über-black attire-hair-nails thing.

Jorge Nuñez

jorge-nunezI think this guy has so much potential it’s not even funny. However…..I wish he would pick a voice and go with it. I almost think if he sang with his accent it would be even better. It comes in every once and a while and it’s a bit weird. I also feel he needs some eyebrow maintence because he looks so angry while singing! If he looked like he was crooning instead—forget it! He would win.

*on a side, I find it really ironic that both Idol and ANTM have PR contestants this season. Apparently Puerto Rico is the hot trend right now!

Michael Sarver

I’m for this guy! He reminds me a little of a friend in my fave band down here in Florida–in looks, not vocally. Loved his style. Thought his dancing was so funny that it was adorable. And hey, he sang the One Tree Hill theme song, gotta like that!

The Girls:

For the most part, I tend to favor male vocals. I love my divas Whitney, Celine, Madonna, Mariah, Ms. Janet and even loved up on Syeisha last season—and not just because she is from right here in sunny Sarasota– but in general girls don’t cut it for me. No idea why. If someone asked me who my favorite current female artist is, I would have no idea who to say. But I try to analyze anyway kinda like “if I liked female artists, would I like her?”

Alexis Grace

I really liked her! Which I found odd because her soulful style isn’t really my cup of tea, nor was her appearance. But there was no denying that she’s got a great voice

Jasmine Murray

Not my fave female vocalist however, her attitude, facial expressions and movements totally took “Love Song” to a new place. It was sassy and I liked it!

****Update: Like I said, I missed most of the Wild Card Show, I just saw her “Reflection” performance and WOW! Very impressed. I mean, she can’t rock it the way I can in the car with the windows rolled up and speakers blasting but she was dope!

Lil Rounds

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I had totally forgotten about her. Couldn’t even remotely think of what she sang or if I even liked her. She has a fab voice but the problem was exactly what the judges said: she sang Mary J Blige verbatim and without adding any of her own zing so I kinda forgot her! Great job though!

I liked Megan Joy Corkey until she sang Put Your Records On. I’m not sure that was my fave song choice for me, for you.

megan-7386281I’m not the biggest fan of that song to begin with. Ok, I hate that over-played song. Whatever. I thought her rendition was horrible. I hated her ennunciation and really thought it sounded way karaoke. And she looked a hot mess. The outfit was all innocent but with the major tat showing down her arm……*shudder* And seriously, what was up with her shoes? She looked like she had elf feet. But I’m willing to overlook all of that because I liked her in the pre-rounds. We shall see.

**Update I officially dislike her. I hate “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” with a passion and feel anyone that sings it should be hit. Repeatedly. I forgave Katharine McPhee—barely—-but I seriously HATED Megan’s version. Hated. Makes me glad I missed the Wild Card show. I correct myself, it makes me want to do the hitting for the people singing it. Oy. Dear God, make it stop.

Ones I wish made it:

Jesse Langseth

I still can’t figure out why I like her since me and pretty red headed girls with great voices do not exactly get along. It is well known that they tend to inspire great rage inside me. Yet oddly, I wanted her to go through. Call me sadistic.

Ju’Not Joyner

I thought he was amazing! Again, not a big fan of “hey there delilah” because it was so overplayed (except when my nephews’  band sang it!) But I thought his version was just sick!!!!! (Definitely worth clicking the link to hear it!) I really don’t get it why he didn’t make it. I mean the judges are always saying “make it your own” and he did—and did a freaking amazing  job at it! But no, they had to put Tatiana into the wild card spot for ratings.

Von Smith

Just because he really reminded me of lil Joey McIntyre!
